Orthotics for Plantar Fasciitis - Help Ease The Pain

If you suffer from persistent pain in the heel, you may have plantar fasciitis. This condition happens when the plantar fascia develops small tears at the point where it connects to the heel bone or anywhere along its length. It can be caused by a number of factors including incorrect foot biomechanics, overtraining, unequal distribution of body weight, wearing shoes with the wrong fit, etc. To relieve the pain and assist in the healing process, you may wear specially designed orthotics.

Plantar fasciitis is characterized by pain in the heel that is most pronounced in the morning when you first get up and start walking. As you continue to walk around, the pain gradually lessens. People with flat feet and other foot abnormalities are more at risk of this condition developing. The condition usually improves and heals over time, but it may take up to one year before the pain is completely gone. Wearing orthotics will help relieve the pain, particularly for those with low arches. In addition, orthotics increases mobility and helps in the healing process.

Take note that other conditions can cause similar pain and discomfort of the heel. You will have to get an accurate diagnosis before getting orthotics for your feet. Orthotic devices are effective because they flex while you walk or run. They provide just the right amount of support for your heels as your weight shifts while walking without affecting the fit of the shoe.

Arch supports can be purchased over the counter at drugstores and may work for some people with mild cases of plantar fasciitis. Most of these devices, however, only cushion the heel but do not necessarily help with the healing process.

Orthotic devices for plantar fasciitis are designed to reduce pain, correct misalignment in your foot, and may even remedy posture issues that caused the condition in the first place. Orthotic devices help make the feet more flexible. Standing, walking and running become less painful. With time, the pain goes away completely.

Orthotic devices or insoles provide a cost-effective treatment compared to buying plantar fasciitis shoes. The insoles can be worn in different sets of shoes.

Inflammation of the plantar fascia can be treated successfully with non-invasive treatment. Early diagnosis is important and treatment must be started at once or else the condition could take 6 to 18 months to be completely healed. Orthotics for plantar fasciitis can help in many cases to cure the condition.

Different Shoes for Orthotics?

I've recently gotten full length orthotics. I've found a good pair of runner that accomodate them well, but a lot of the more urban/slimline sport shoes are too small for them. Are getting an extra half-length orthotics a good idea so I can still wear a wide variety of shoes? I'm really restricted as to what I can buy now.

I don't understand why you can't find shoes with your orthotics. They do have to be a whole size or so larger than you are used to, though, which can be off-putting.

Your orthotics aren't longer than your feet, are they? If so, they can be trimmed. Or they may be too wide for dress shoes. My podiatrist made mine a bit narrower than I like, so they will fit into dress shoes; but they aren't quite right for running shoes.
